Monthly Mix: The Playlist, July 2012

The heat index for July was turned up to the max as sweltering sun rays and sizzling mp3s beamed down in waves. Avoiding the sun's onslaught was no easy task, but relaxing in the shade with this month's musical offerings served as a pleasant cool down.
Seattle prog-rockers Minus the Bear are back in the fold with their new album Infinity Overhead on its way August 28th. The first track delivered to the public is "Lonely Gun", a guitar-effects laden tune which frontman Jake Snider describes as a song about a loveless relationship. The band kicks off their national tour in support of the new album on August 9th.
The summer has been filled with great alternative rock cuts, and this month Dinosaur Jr. handed us another gem. The Massachusettes rockers debuted the fresh single off I Bet On Sky (September 18th) to the alt-radio waves called "Watch the Corners", a song that highlights all the crunchy rock qualities that the band is known for. Look for them at the MidPoint and Pygmalion Music Festivals in the weeks to come.
Hailing from San Diego, garage-poppers The Soft Pack sound like they could fit wonderfully on a tri-bill with Cloud Nothings and the Japandroids. Their new record Strapped is available August 25th and they gave us a sample in the way of "Saratoga." This tune is a vintage garage rambler sprinkled with some pop flair, sure to sound good with the sunroof down.
Surviving the heatwave is always an adventure, but luckily with the heat also comes some of the year's best music. The July Playlist is chalked full of hot tracks, which mixes perfectly next to a pool and an ice cold cocktail.

IN THE BONUS:

In celebration of the one year anniversary of Feerock's World, and because of the influx of great tunes that were delivered this month, some bonus tracks have been added! A couple of dynamite collaborations headline the extra cuts. First up are The Flaming Lips and Jim James with the song "That Ain't My Trip" off of the Lips' Heady Fwends. Trippy for sure, I'd say. Another newly formed alliance comes in the form of Tyler, the Creator and chillwave mastermind Toro Y Moi. Their joint effort "Hey You" makes for one of the summer's finest anthems.
