Cold War Kids deliver L.A. Divine The rain storms have passed and the warmth of the spring is just around the corner. April brought showers, but it also left a bucket full of fresh new music. California indie-rockers Cold War Kids are making some noise with their latest album L.A. Divine [April 7, via Capital]. The fourteen tracks are layered thick with guitars and keyboards. On the single "Restless," frontman Nathan Willett emphasizes a message of staying young through constant adventure. Check the band out on tour as they trek through the United States this summer, featuring a big slot at Bonnaroo Music Festival. April is in the rearview mirror and spring will be in full bloom in the near future. It's nice to know the mp3 players are re-stocked. Ryan Adams becomes a Prisoner
Valentine's Day is in the rear view mirror and the warmth of the spring is on the horizon. February brought a sheet of ice, but it also brought a blizzard-sized pile of new music.
North Carolina rocker Ryan Adams is back in the fold with his latest album Prisoner [February 17, via Pax-Am]. Coming in at twelve tracks, this may be Adams' most complete record to date. On the loud single "Do You Still Love Me?", he shows off his guitar chops as he asks a former lover a burning question. Check him out on tour as he weaves through the United Sates this spring and summer.

Tame Impala sends out Currents |
The summer started off relatively hot and the good times keep on rolling. The beaches and lakes have been in picturesque form, and an added bonus has been the healthy doses of fresh tunes.
Australian psych-rockers Tame Impala are generating some buzz with their latest effort Currents [July 17, via Interscope]. Band leader Kevin Parker has elements of his signature hazy 80's dance music throughout the thirteen tracks. For the lengthy tripped-out "Let It Happen", the group goes on an adventure down a path of fuzzy synths and acid rock. The rest of the record rides along a similar path and creates for a smooth listen. Check these guys out as their tour spins through the U.S. and Europe with big gigs at Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.
It's great to be able to fire up the grill every night and knock a couple cold drinks down. As the summer continues to roll on, it's good to have gas in the lawn mower, beer in the fridge, and some fresh beats in the headphones.

TV On The Radio plants new Seeds |
November gave out lots to be thankful for including friends, family, and football. Not to mention a feast of new music.
Brooklyn New York's indie rockers TV On The Radio are back with their latest album Seeds [November 18, via Harvest]. Heavy on synth and fuzzed out guitars, this record is smooth front to back. On the first single "Happy Idiot", frontman Tunde Adebimpe sings a tale of trying to stay sane while not trying to think about a love that got away. The band's tour kicks off in Miami then heads overseas with a big gig at Sonar Festival in Iceland.
As the cold begins to settle in, it's good to know the iPod is heated up with fresh tunes. Thanksgiving is in the rear view mirror, now it's time to put the headphones on and string up the Christmas lights.

Jim James explores Regions of Light and Sound of God |
As the snow and the slush continue to pile up, lucky for us so does the reloaded reservoir on our iPods. February produced a healthy amount of solid tracks, ranging from folk to indie rock and all points in between. Plenty of variety to help spice up the last few weeks of winter.
My Morning Jacket band leader Jim James is back in the mix of things with his debut solo album Regions of Light and Sound of God. This record has a stripped-down feel, giving way to a haunting collection of songs. The first single "A New Life" finds James at his bare-bones core, while managing to slowly morph a folk song into a showtune. Look for him in the months to come as his tour makes stops at some bigtime festivals including Bonnaroo, Hangout, and Firefly.
The rest of February's playlist produces a better than average mix, enough to keep the heat going a bit longer as the winter winds down.
